A Natural Connection
Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always been drawn to the outdoors. Climbing, exploring, adventuring, there’s just something about being outside that has always felt right to me. Whether it was running around with friends, imagining epic adventures, or just enjoying nature, I’ve always loved that feeling of freedom and excitement. At the time, I wasn’t sure what to do with those interests and fantasies.
Like many kids, I let my parents take the lead in planning my activities. I had fun with what I did, but I never really took the time to explore what I truly wanted to do. Looking back, I sometimes wish I had joined Scouts sooner. The skills, the friendships, and the experiences that come with being part of a troop these are things I now realize I was missing out on.
Taking the Leap
However, this all changed when my good friends FaceTimed me during a Camporee. That younger version of me thought about how people could even go three days without their mom and dad to camp. It sounded a little scary, but also freeing. However, it was too late to stop me, so I dragged my parents over to Troop 72 Cerritos in the summer of last year (2024) for my first meeting.
But the great thing is, it’s never too late to start. Since joining Troop 27, I’ve already learned so much. I’ve met amazing people, challenged myself in new ways, and begun to develop skills that will help me throughout my life. I know that every campout, every hike, every meeting is an opportunity to grow, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.

Looking Forward
To anyone out there who might be like me, who loves adventure but hasn’t taken the leap yet, I’d say: go for it. Get outside, explore, and don’t be afraid to take that first step. Scouting has already made a difference in my life, and I know it will continue to do so.
